A sombre atmosphere punctuated by shock and grief has gripped the community of Epworth after a toddler aged 1 year and 4 months tragically drowned in a water logged rubbish pit.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the unfortunate accident.

“The ZRP reports a sad incident in which a baby boy (1 year 4 months) drowned in a water logged rubbish pit on 18/12/24 at a house near corner store, Overspill, Epworth, Harare,” said Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

The incident occurred when the victim was playing outside while the mother was doing household chores. The incident reminds the mothers the importance of ensuring the safety and supervision of young children at all the times.

Meanwhile the ZRP confirms the arrest of three individuals in connection with a suspected case of stock theft.

Trust Mpofu (37),Prince Dube (40) and Mthuthukisi Msizi (31) were arrested at an abattoir in Belmont Bulawayo in connection of stock theft.

The suspects were apprehended after presenting a forged stock clearance form to the police at the abattoir, in an attempt to slaughter the stolen cattle.

The arrest led to the recovery of 11 heads of cattle bearing foreign brand marks, suggesting that the cattle may have been stolen from outside the country.The truck which was used to transport the stolen cattle, a UD 60 truck, registration number AFK4503, was impounded by the police.
