 A 23 year old Beitbridge man, Gerald Gumbodete, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a violent robbery that occurred on November 10, 2024.

He was convicted and sentenced by the Beitbridge Magistrate Court.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), states that during the incident Gumbodete violently attacked Avant Mugweva stabing him five times with an okapi knife.

 Following the assault, Gumbodete stole two cellphones from Mugweva.

Mugweva was able to identify one of the stolen phones, an iPhone, through personal photos stored on the device.

Law enforcement officials successfully recovered the stolen items, including the bloodstained knife used in the attack, from Gumbodete’s possession.

This incident serves as a strong reminder of the serious consequences faced by young man who engage in violent criminal activities
