As efforts to drag the net around drug dealers and peddlers in the country continue, a Beitbridge man, Denny Mutariswa (49) has been convicted and sentenced to 10 months in prison for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs for dealing.

Circumstances are that on the 15th of May, 2025, at approximately 0100 hours, police officers conducting an anti-smuggling operation were manning a roadblock at the 55km peg along the Masvingo/Beitbridge highway.

They stopped a Scania truck towing two trailers for stop and search purposes. Mutariswa had asked for a lift from the truck driver.

During the search of the first trailer, conducted in Mutariswa’s presence, officers recovered one wrapped parcel containing loose dagga, which was stashed in a 50kg bag of maize.

He was arrested and the recovered dagga weighed 2.55kg, was valued at USD 200, and was seized.

Mutariswa failed to produce a licence or permit for dealing in drugs.
