The Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court has convicted Hardlife Nyathi (25), a resident of Tshabili Village under Chief Matibe, for stock theft.
He was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment, with 8 months suspended for 5 years and a further 6 months suspended on condition that he restitutes the donkeys. Nyathi will serve 10 months effective.
According to the reports, Nyathi is accused of stealing two male donkeys belonging to Reason Moyo, a 50 year old man from Makawa Village under Chief Sitaudze in Tongwe.
On an unknown date in April 2025, the complainant left his donkeys unattended in the Makawa grazing lands, and the offender allegedly took them unnoticed.
The complainant discovered that his donkeys were missing and informed his headman, who then alerted the anti-stock theft committee. In the first week of May 2025, the anti-stock theft committee found Nyathi in possession of the donkeys and informed the complainant, leading to Nyathi’s arrest.
