The death toll from the tragic Beitbridge-Masvingo bus accident has risen to 26, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed in a statement.
The accident happened at the 262-kilometre mark along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road, near Lutumba tollgate. Seventeen people lost their lives at the scene, while seven more died in hospital. Another victim succumbed the next day, bringing the total to 25.
The death toll rose after a female adult, who was admitted to Parirenyatwa Hospital, succumbed to her injuries on February 19, 2025.
“Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police press statement released on 14th February 2025 regarding a fatal road traffic accident at the 262-kilometre peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road, near Lutumba tollgate. The death toll has risen to 26 after a female adult, who was admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital, died on 19th February 2025.”
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing to the public to assist in identifying two remaining victims who died in the fatal road traffic accident.
The first unidentified victim is a male adult who was wearing a red t-shirt and black trousers at the time of the accident. The second victim is a female adult who was wearing a black jersey and black trousers.
