PATIENCE pays, and he who laughs last laughs longer.
That is what Nothando Mbedzi nee Ndlovu is experiencing after getting justice 21 years after her war veteran husband and former Tongwe School head Funani Mbedzi died.
Her tears had not dried when the just widowed Ndlovu was faced with a huge mountain to climb.
Soon after the love of her life died their plot 7 A Marimba near Mazunga was invaded by another war veteran Alfred Moyo.
“He left his own plot and came to ours with my late husband who had just passed on,” said Ndlovu.
“For the last 21 years I have been battling and last week the wheels of justice rolled towards me and finally Moyo was evicted.
“I am relieved. I have finally seen justice and I am happy that finally my husband can rest in peace,” she said.
Smiling as she was during the interview, Mbedzi Ndlovu’s ordeal was not a walk in the park.
She walked all the corridors and visited every office and was even spurned in local lands offices by officials who appeared siding with the man who wanted her plot.
Mbedzi Ndlovu trudged to the Lands Commission offices at district, provincial and national offices where she had almost lost hope.
But taking the court route paid off finally.
She won her case but Moyo would not budge and even had the cheek to stay on after losing in the High Court.
He would even refuse Mbedzi-Ndlovu’s workers water to drink at the plot.
“They were denied water and many times had to fetch water long distances away. It was hard and one of the worst experiences of my life,” she said.
But last week the Sheriff of the High Court drove to Mazunga to their plot and flushed out Moyo, who is a war veterans official.
Videos that have gone viral in Beitbridge show hands from the Sherriff’s office removing Moyo’s property dumped outside of a house at the plot.
“He has come back claiming he lost $20 000 he is accusing me of stealing the money when his goods were being thrown out. I was not there.”
Yesterday Moyo could not be reached.
But for Mbedzi-Ndlovu, she has smiled all the way home and believes her husband is now resting in peace.
