DETECTIVES from Beitbridge have arrested a suspected armed robber believed to have hit Peter’s Motel Service Station before driving away in a stolen super car later crashed and abandoned in Zvishavane.

Although details are still sketchy, the suspect, believed a deportee, is said to have been nabbed in Gweru where he must have been hiding. He is likely though, to clear other armed robbery cases.

He is said to have been employed as a building hand at Peter’s Motel currently under major renovations during which he allegedly stole property including a handbag with phones and Jaguar car keys belonging to former hotel owner Mrs Mutasa.

Fuel attendants at the service station said the suspect, operating alone and in a mask, arrived at about 3am on September 26 this year, and knocked at a door only people with knowledge about the place would use.

Unsuspecting, they opened the door and he is alleged to have demanded cash at gunpoint.

But someone is believed to have identified his voice from the persistent love proposals the suspect used to advance.

The suspect later drove out of the hotel complex in broad daylight and away along Harare road but was last seen at Rutenga only for the crashed car to be found in Zvishavane.

In flight, he dropped a mobile phone at the accident scene.

And the rest is police super work untangling a puzzle.

“He arrived here with the detectives late on Friday. He was singing everything,” a source at the hotel told Ziyah News Network.

He is expected in court Saturday morning for a police application for further detention to carry out investigations.
