Mugove Makanya, A 40 year old man from Nkulumane 5 in Bulawayo has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for vandalizing copper cables. He was convicted and sentenced by the West Commonage Magistrate’s Court.
As reported by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), police officers received information to the effect that the accused person had copper and wanted to sell it.
The team proceeded to Nketa to investigate. At around 1130hours, the accused person arrived in a tax and offload 3 sacks that were loaded with copper bars and cores of burnt underground armored copper cables. Police officers approached the accused person and conducted a search, leading to arrest of the accused person. They also recovered copper bars and cables weighing 55.5kg valued at USD 1 110.
The accused person were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment

Police officer was convicted of murder
Tafirenyika, who is a member of Zimbabwe republic police appeared before the court sitting at Gweru on murder charges
As reported by National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the accused person who was 28 at the time the offence was committed was part of a team of police Officers who were tasked to apprehend armed robbery suspects, Tichaona Muzhanduki and Doubt Munsaka at Radway Farm.
The accused person and a colleague were armed with service rifles. When they got to the farm the team split into four groups and surrounded the house.
The now deceased opened the door after the police had knocked and shouted “Police.” The accused person immediately discharged his fire arm and shot the deceased several times on the chest and arms.
The deceased died on the spot.
The accused person was convicted of murder and will appear in court on the 20th of September 2024 for sentencing
