A Beitbridge carpenter successfully recovered a debt of R1,800 after taking a customer to the Beitbridge Civil Court over an unpaid bed.

The matter, between Trinos Garisinaushe and Kudzaishe Marema, was heard before Magistrate Mbonisi Kaweni on Monday this week.

Garisinaushe told the court that Marema visited his workshop intending to buy a bed valued at R1,800.

He said the Marema promised to make payments but took the bed without paying any money.

“I am a carpenter. This man came to my place wanting to buy a bed worth R1,800. He promised to pay but has not paid anything, yet he took the bed. He owes me R1,800,” Garisinaushe told the court.

Marema admitted owing the money and initially proposed paying R200 per week, adding that he could pay R500 by the end of the month.

After hearing both parties, Kaweni told both parties to reach an agreement.

By consent, the court ordered Marema to pay R1,000 on or before 13 August 2026, with the remaining R800 to be paid on or before 13 September 2026.

Garisinaushe told the court that he was satisfied with the payment arrangement, and the matter was concluded by consent.
