BELLARMINE Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of Zimbabwe’s late former President Robert Mugabe, has reportedly been arrested again, this time in connection with the alleged assault of a Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigator during an operation involving two luxury vehicles suspected of being illegally kept in the country.

According to reports, the 29-year-old was arrested alongside four other men following an incident at Brompton Guest Lodge in Newlands, Harare, on Tuesday evening, November 3.

The other suspects have been identified as Munashe Mubawu (43), Terrence Johannes Chinyemba (42), Fredson Peter (33) and Solomon Pamire (34).

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests in a statement.

The arrests followed a ZACC operation targeting two luxury vehicles, a Lamborghini and a Mercedes-Benz GLE 53, both reportedly registered in South Africa.

ZACC spokesperson Simiso Mlevu said preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicles had entered Zimbabwe under temporary import permits issued by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), but investigators suspected that they had remained in the country beyond the permitted periods.

During the operation, a ZACC investigator was allegedly assaulted, prompting the commission to report the matter to the police.

The five suspects are expected to appear in court on Thursday, November 5.

Their individual roles in the alleged assault and the suspected vehicle-importation irregularities had not been fully established at the time of publication.

Chatunga has had several previous encounters with law enforcement in both Zimbabwe and South Africa.

In February 2026, he was arrested in Johannesburg following a shooting incident in which a 23-year-old gardener was seriously injured.

He later entered a plea agreement on separate charges involving immigration violations and pointing an object resembling a firearm. He was fined R600,000 and ordered deported to Zimbabwe.

In Zimbabwe, he was arrested in August 2024 following an alleged confrontation with police officers at the Bubi roadblock near Beitbridge.

He faced charges of disorderly conduct and possession of a dangerous weapon.

He was also arrested in June 2025 following an alleged assault incident at a mining site in Mazowe involving security personnel.

The case added to a growing list of legal controversies surrounding the son of the late former president.
