Award-winning Zimbabwean musician Gift Kudakwashe Hombarume, known as Chillmaster, is set to go on trial today for his involvement in a fatal road traffic accident that killed pedestrian Custon Charambira along New Chitungwiza Road.

Charambira died at the scene, prompting charges of culpable homicide against the 24-year-old artist.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that Chillmaster may not have had a valid driver’s licence at the time of the crash, with witnesses claiming he failed to produce one.

Under Zimbabwe’s Road Traffic Act, driving without a valid licence can result in fines or imprisonment.

If convicted of culpable homicide, Chillmaster could face a life sentence, especially given that Charambira died instantly.

In a statement following the incident, Chillmaster expressed deep sorrow and took full responsibility, offering condolences to Charambira’s family and acknowledging the difficulty of seeking forgiveness.

The trial’s outcome could have  legal repercussions for the musician, who expressed his remorse over the tragic event.
