A 33 year old chivi resident Farai Magobo ,has been arraigned before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ court for robbery.

The incident occured near Mutsa Lodge in Beitbridge where the complainant, disembarked a taxi at the Dulibadzimu Bus terminus, en-route to his employer’s residence to deliver the proceeds from the day’s sales.

Before reaching his destination, Magobo and an accomplice, who remains at large, intercepted him.

Magobo allegedly used pepper spray to incapacitate the complainant by spraying it directly into his face, while his accomplice brandished a firearm, pointing it towards the victim.

They then forcibly took ZAR 20,000, which was in a plastic food basin inside a green paper bag.
Following the robbery, the complainant raised an alarm, prompting members of the public to pursue the two assailants.

During the chase, the accomplice, armed with a pistol, discharged four shots before escaping into the surrounding bush.

Magobo was apprehended by the pursuing crowd. Upon his apprehension, ZAR 15,000 of the stolen cash, concealed within a green paper bag, was recovered from his undergarments including the pepper spray used in the attack, and a spent cartridge.

The accused is remanded in custody and will be back in court on 25 March 2025 for routine remand.
