A truck driver from Chitungwiza will rue the day he decided to smuggle cigarettes across the Beitbridge border after he was slapped with a 4 year jail term by the Beitbridge Magistrate Court.

Ringai Bisitara (44) will spent 4 years in prison for attempting to smuggle 500 cartons of Remington Gold cirgarates through the Beitbridge Border Post.

According to the reports, the driver employed by On Part Rams Transport, traveling from Harare to South Africa, attempted to smuggle 500 cartons of Remington Gold cigarettes through the Beitbridge Border Post.

He arrived at the border driving a South African registered truck claiming it was empty, but discrepancies in his manifest and statements led to a search.

The truck was eventually impounded after he tried to move it despite being ordered to stop, and the contraband was discovered.

The driver was arrested for failing to produce a bill of entry for the cigarettes, and a notice of seizure was issued for both the goods and the truck.

Authorities have been cracking down on such activities, with several arrests made in recent weeks.
