A 32-year-old Bulawayo based cross-border transporter has been granted $200 bail in his case where he faces a charge of dealing in dangerous drugs 86.248 kilograms of dagga with an estimated street value of US$8 625 at the Beitbridge Border Post.

Takavata Rhyan Deeds, 32, appeared before Magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba on Monday this week..

As part of his bail conditions, Deeds was ordered to report every 14 days at West Commonage Police Station in Bulawayo.

Prosecutor Olivia Chamutinya, alleged that on May 2, 2026, at around 5:30PM, Deeds arrived at the Freight Terminal at Beitbridge Border Post driving a Toyota GD6 towing a trailer.

Chamutinya said, ZIMRA canine officers searched and instructed the crew and passengers to stand beside their luggage.

During the search, a ZIMRA K9 sniffer dog allegedly detected drugs in two China bags belonging to Deeds.

The bags were opened in his presence and were allegedly found containing seven cobs of dagga.

ZIMRA seized the drugs under ZIMRA Notice of Seizure 067362K before arresting Deeds.

Chamutinya said Deeds’s cellphone, allegedly used before and during the commission of the offence, was confiscated and referred to a cyber laboratory for forensic examination.

Deeds was represented by Lawyer Forbes Sithole of Sithole Law Office, legal Practitioners.

The matter was postponed to June 1, 2026, pending forensic reports.
