The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) has announced that it will be conducting a mapping exercise from July 8 to October 31, 2024, in preparation for the 2025 Economic Census. The exercise aims to subdivide the country into smaller geographic units called Business Enumeration Areas (BEAs), which will help determine the location of establishments and collect basic identification details.

The mapping exercise will collect essential information about establishments, including their name, address, registered name, trading name, owner’s name, and location code. This information will be used to create Business Enumeration Areas, which will facilitate the data collection process for the Economic Census.

The Economic Census, scheduled to take place from April 2025 to June 2026, will provide vital data on Zimbabwe’s economic activity, employment, and businesses. The mapping exercise is a crucial step in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the census data.

ZIMSTAT assures that all collected information will be treated as strictly confidential and used solely for statistical purposes, in accordance with the Census and Statistics Act [CHAPTER 10:29].

The agency encourages all establishments to participate in the mapping exercise, which will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of Zimbabwe’s economy and inform policy decisions.

The Economic Census is the official five-year measure of businesses in the United States providing comprehensive statistics at the national, state, and local levels. It serves as the benchmark for current economic activity, such as the Gross Domestic Product and Producer Price Index
