THE Permanent Secretary for Primary and Secondary Education, has hailed the efforts and determination displayed by student exhibitors from different provinces during the exhibition tour.
Students showcased their innovations at NASSAF 2026, jointly held at Oakleigh House Trust School and St Mary’s High School in Beitbridge, Matabeleland South.
While touring the various exhibition stands, Mhike said the displays demonstrated that the country’s education system was moving in the right direction, given the excellent and innovative work showcased by the students.
“These innovations and other displays show that our Heritage Based Curriculum is developing intelligent future Zimbabwean citizens. These are the kinds of innovations which we need to continue making ourselves proud of being in this country,” Mhike said.
Mhike also said the next step was to support students in developing their prototypes into more practical and tangible products that could benefit the country in the future.
Beitbridge West Member of Parliament, Thusani Ndou, who is also a member of the Portfolio Committee on Primary and Secondary Education, said students with creative minds needed to be nurtured and supported.
“We should nurture these kids and help them. Throughout this tour, we have seen many things. For example, the exhibitors from Binga who recycle plastics have made different kinds of products, including covering wood with plastic,” Ndou said.
During the exhibition tour, Junior Member of Parliament for Beitbridge East, Prosperity Chauke, said she was impressed to see girls among the top innovators in the competition.
“I’m very happy to see my fellow girl child taking part in innovation and other categories. It shows that we are also capable of doing what our boys do, but the most important thing is working together. As students, it shows that we have a brighter future in various disciplines in our schools around the country,” Chauke said.
