It’s an end of an era for the club SuperSport United as we know after the franchise of the Pretoria based outfit was officially sold to a yet to b named Bloemfontein business mogul.
According leading South African sports journalist, Robert Marawa, SuperSport United has been sold for R50 million rand. Additionally with the Bloemfontein Celtics name yet to be made available, the club will be known as Celtic United.
“Bloemfontein Celtic” is back in the Premiership for next season with the Marawa Scorpions revealing the Supersport United franchise has been bought by a young Bloemfontein businessman for an amount of R50 Million Rand!! The Club will operate as Celtic United,” wrote Marawa on social media.
Following years of reported financial struggles, the Multichoice – owned club is now under new ownership.
SuperSport United now cease to exist after becoming three time PSL champions under legendary Gavin Hunt.
It has also won the MTN 8 in 2017 and 2019, and three Nedbank Cups in 2012, 2016, and 2017 under Stuart Baxter.
The club is known for producing elite players such as Rowen Williams, Tebogo Mokwena and Dean Furman and also recruiting coaches Zimbabwean and Zambian players such Gampani Lungu, Terence Dzukamanja and Onismor Bhasera.
