ZIMBABWE President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent condolences to Kenya following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga on October 15, 2025.

Odinga 80, collapsed during a morning walk in India near Kochi, approximately 50 kilometers east of the port city.

He was transported to Devamatha Hospital, where medical personnel reported that he suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was declared dead at 09:52 local time (04:22 GMT).

The death of one of Kenya’s most influential political figures has sent shockwaves across the continent.

Odinga was widely credited with helping to usher in multi-party democracy in Kenya challenging authoritarianism and advocacy for constitutional reforms over a political career that spanned more than four decades.

Odinga was also known for his ability to bridge divides and unite desperate groups championing the rights of marginalized populations.

In a letter to Kenyan President William Ruto, Mnangagwa conveyed his sorrow and extended condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa acknowledged Odinga’s significant contributions to Kenya and his commitment to regional development goals across Africa.

“The late former Prime Minister will be remembered for his distinguished service to the development of Kenya,” Mnangagwa said.

“We will forever cherish Mr Odinga ‘s commitment to our shared regional and continental developmental aspirations.”
