South African famous sangoma popularly known as Gogo Maweni, has been arrested on charges of assault grievous bodily harm.
Gogo Maweni appeared at the Protea Magistrates’ Court in Soweto yesterday.
Gogo Maweni whose birth name is Makgotso Lee Anne Makopo, is a 38 year old reality TV star and social media influencer.
The famous traditional healer Gogo Maweni was arrested on 19 January 2025, in connection with assault that dates back to 17 December 2019 in Dlamini Soweto.
The National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa alleges that Makgotso Mofokeng, also known as Gogo Maweni, used a bottle to assault the complainant, striking her on the mouth.
The matter was previously provisionally closed due to the untraceability of the complainant. However, further investigations have led to Gogo Maweni arrest and court appearance.
The case has been postponed to 27 January 2025, for bail application and profiling of Gogo Maweni.
