The government has officially launched the Zimbabwe Industrial Reconstruction and Growth Plan (ZIRGP), an initiative aimed at fostering sustainable growth within the manufacturing sector, which is essential for the nation’s economic transformation and progress towards achieving its Vision 2030 objectives. This program builds on the recently concluded Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy (ZNIDP) 2019-2023.

Delivering the opening remarks at the launch in Mutare today, the Secretary for Industry and Commerce, Dr. Thomas Utete Wushe, stated that the ZIRGP is “a beacon of hope and progress,” emphasizing its role in aligning industrial strategies with the National Development Strategy 2.

“In line with the overarching theme of the upcoming 2025 Budget, as mentioned in the 2025 Budget Strategy Paper, ‘Building Resilience for Sustained Economic Transformation,’ the ZIRGP will focus on harnessing growth opportunities within the manufacturing sector,” he said.

Central to this initiative is a commitment to fostering sustainable growth within the manufacturing sector, which is vital for the nation’s economic transformation.

“The ZIRGP will focus on four key pillars: enhancing commerce to support industrialization, driving manufacturing sector growth, ensuring effective implementation and monitoring, and preparing for the next wave of industrial policies,” he added.

Additionally, the Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration in executing a transitional plan aimed at improving the country’s economy. He noted that by working together, they can enhance Zimbabwe’s industrial and commercial sectors, leading to a successful and inclusive economy that will benefit future generations.

“Let us work together as we implement this transitional plan. Together, we can strengthen Zimbabwe’s industrial and commercial sectors towards a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable economy for future generations,” he urged.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Manicaland Province, Hon. Misheck Mugadza, declared that the region is ready and willing to attract businesses and investment. He expressed confidence that the ZIRGP will boost the economy and lead to job creation for the local population.

“Manicaland is open for business, and we believe that the ZIRGP will enhance economic prosperity and create jobs for our citizens,” he stated.

The launch of the Zimbabwe Industrial Reconstruction and Growth Plan (ZIRGP) marks a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to revitalize the manufacturing sector and stimulate economic growth.
