Fedwell Moyo (42) of Gwanda has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for murdering his wife, Da Msipa (27), following a dispute over money.
Reports state that the couple had traveled to Vumbachikwe Mine to sell maize cobs and sweet reeds. However, upon their return home, an argument erupted over how to use the money.
Moyo wanted to pay school fees, while his wife intended to start a business. The disagreement escalated into violence, resulting in Moyo striking his wife with a stone and then assaulting her with a log, inflicting fatal injuries.
In an attempt to conceal the crime, Moyo buried his wife’s body in a shallow grave within their maize fields.
He also involved his young daughter in moving the body, although she was unaware of the circumstances.
Moyo eventually confessed to a local resident, Livious Tshaka, who reported the matter to the police. He was subsequently arrested, tried, and convicted of murder.
