A 20-year-old herd boy from Magunje has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of raping his employer’s 12-year-old daughter on multiple occasions. The verdict was handed down by the Karoi Magistrate Court.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the accused, who was employed as a herd boy, met the complainant while she was returning from school. In a troubling series of events, he lured her into a nearby bush, where he forcibly removed her clothes and raped her before fleeing the scene.
The horrors did not end there. Later in March, while they were working together in a tobacco barn, the accused raped the girl again. During this incident, he reportedly threatened to assault her if she revealed the abuse to her mother.
In May 2024, the situation escalated when the accused fondled the complainant’s breasts. Disturbed by this, the young girl confided in her mother about the incidents of abuse. Following this revelation, the complainant’s mother confronted the accused, ordering him to cease his inappropriate behavior.
The case came to light in its entirety when the complainant discovered she was pregnant, which prompted her to disclose the full extent of the abuse to her mother. This led to a police report being filed against the accused, ultimately resulting in his arrest.
The sentencing of the herd boy serves as a critical reminder of the need for vigilance and protection for minors against such heinous acts. The court’s decision reflects a strong stance against sexual violence, as authorities continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of children in the community.
