Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court has convicted Kumbirai Ngoreta, 30, for impersonating a police officer. The court sentenced him to a fine of USD 100 or 100 days imprisonment in default of payment.
Circumstances are that Ngoreta was traveling as a passenger in a Honda Fit vehicle when he refused to pay the fare, claiming to be a member of the Central Intelligence Officer from the President’s office.
Constable Chagoma, who was also on board the vehicle, requested the driver to proceed to Mbizo Police Station to verify Ngoreta’s claims.
Upon arrival at the police station, officers conducted a check and confirmed that Ngoreta was falsely claiming to be a police officer.
His impersonation was deemed an offense, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction in court.
