A 24 year old man from Mbizo Kwekwe has been sentenced to 24 months in prison after being convicted of indecent assault on a 12 year old girl.
The offender, whose identity has not been disclosed, appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court and received a sentence with part of it suspended.
According to court records, the incident occurred in April 2025 when the victim was approached at her home.
The man allegedly pretended to be settling a debt owed to the girl’s mother and lured her into his house. Once inside, he led her into his bedroom where he proceeded to fondle her breasts and buttocks, and attempted to remove her underwear.
The young girl reportedly resisted the assault, and the man then handed her a US$5 note.
The abuse came to light on April 30, 2025, when the girl saw the offender at her neighbor’s house and informed her mother about the incident. Following her report, the man was promptly arrested and brought to justice.
The court sentenced the man to 24 months in prison, with six months suspended for five years, meaning he will serve 18 months effective. The judge emphasized the severity of the crime and the importance of protecting children from sexual abuse.
