A tanker truck carrying gasoline in Haiti overturned and exploded, killing at least 15 people leaving 40 others seriously injured

This is not the first time that Haiti has realised a deadly tanker truck explosion in recent years. In 2021, dozens of people were killed in the northern city of Cap-Haitien when a truck derailed while trying to avoid a motorbike, more than 50 people lost their lives.

Reports from the Island nation indicate the 15 people killed in the latest blast were trying to collect fuel from the crashed tanker.

Prime Minister Garry Conille visited the scene of the accident in the port city of Miragoane, in the south of Haiti.

He spoke from a regional helicopter in Port-au-Prince saying, “It is a horrible scene that we have just experienced, several dozen victims, many of whom were injured and burned very severely, many of whom would have been evacuated to the town of Les Cayes.”
