
PRESIDENT Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has appointed General (Rtd) Philip Valerio Sibanda to the ZANU PF Politburo with immediate effect.
The ruling party announced on Monday.
In a statement dated 11 May 2026, ZANU PF’s Department of Information and Publicity said the appointment was made in terms of the party’s constitution.
“The ZANU PF First Secretary and President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa exercising His mandate in terms of Article 9, Section 65 as read with Section 67 of the ZANU PF Constitution, has appointed General (Rtd) Philip Valerio Sibanda to the ZANU PF Politburo. This appointment is with immediate effect,” read the statement
The statement was issued by Secretary for Information and Publicity and party spokesperson, Cde. Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa.
General Sibanda is one of Zimbabwe’s most senior military figures, having previously served as Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces before retiring from active service.
His appointment places him in the ZANU PF Politburo, the ruling party’s top policy and administrative organ responsible for implementing decisions and directing party affairs.
