President and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Cde. Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, has celebrated the historic election of Kirsty Coventry, the Honourable Minister of Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation, as the first female and 10th President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He made these remarks during his address at the 382nd Ordinary Session of the Politburo, held in Harare yesterday.
This landmark achievement was highlighted as a source of pride for Zimbabwe and a testament to the nation’s growing influence on the global stage.
In a notable address at the 382nd Ordinary Session of the Politburo, President Mnangagwa expressed his enthusiasm for Coventry’s election, describing it as a “historic and phenomenal achievement.”
He emphasized that this milestone not only elevates Coventry but also places Zimbabwe in the spotlight, inspiring future generations and underscoring the country’s commitment to empowering women in leadership roles.
In addition to celebrating Coventry’s success, the President used the occasion to reaffirm the government’s ongoing dedication to addressing the needs and aspirations of the Zimbabwean people through economic stabilization, modernization, and industrialization.
“The people’s needs and aspirations are at the core of our priorities,” Mnangagwa stressed, as he outlined the government’s focus on responsive strategies to tackle both opportunities and challenges.
The President also commended the efforts of the Party, the Youth League, and various stakeholders in the successful launch of the Presidential Youth Empowerment Facility, emphasizing the importance of rekindling partnerships between the Party-State and the private sector.
He encouraged further support for innovative enterprises and long-term empowerment initiatives that prioritize youth and women.
President Mnangagwa further called for unity and collaboration among party members and the broader community to ensure continued progress toward national goals.
The celebration of Coventry’s historic achievement serves as a reminder of the country’s pride in her election and the potential Zimbabwe holds to succeed at the international level.
