PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially proclaimed Saturday, 20 December 2025 as by-election date for the Nkulumane constituency.

Nkulumane in Bulawayo fell vacant following the death of its Member of Parliament, Honourable Desire Moyo killed in an accident on October 10, 2025.

According to Proclamation 6 of 2025, issued under Statutory Instrument 169A and dated November 6 2025, Mnangagwa exercised powers granted under section 39(2) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13] to initiate the electoral process to fill the vacant parliamentary seat.

In the proclamation, Mnangagwa said the nomination Court will sit on Thursday, 20 November 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Magistrates’ Court, Tredgold Building in Bulawayo, to receive candidate nominations.

“If necessary, polling will be held on Saturday, 20 December 2025, in line with section 46(17)(c) of the Electoral Act.” Mnangagwa said.

The vacancy was formally communicated to the President by the Speaker of Parliament on October 31, following Moyo’s death.

Moyo, who represented Nkulumane under the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), was known for his activism and contributions to youth empowerment and arts development in Bulawayo.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is now expected to commence preparations for the by election.
