A Namibian female national has been arrested in a high profile dangerous drug trafficking at OR Tambo Airport in South Africa.
According SA police service on X, the female suspect swallowed cocaine bullets while travelling from Brazil.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says the suspect may spend a day in hospital until all the drugs pass through her body.
According to SABC, the suspect released more than 60 bullets of suspected cocaine. She is currently under police guard and custody.
According to the SAPS, this is the tenth drug mule to be arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport in the past two months and more than R30 million worth of drugs have been seized.
Recently, reports emerged that SA police service had uncovered an industrial method lab and arrested suspects including 2 Mexican nationals in one of the country‘s biggest ever drug busts.
South Africa has somewhat become the drug mule’s hub of Southern Africa as the traffickers constantly find not only a market but a center to distribute in the rest of the Southern African region and beyond.
Many cases of dangerous drug trafficking cases has been reported mostly involving women which raises so many questions on why women are increasingly taking the risk of smuggling drugs through their body which is harmful to their health and can easily lead to death.
