Nelson Chamisa, leader of the so called :Citizens’ movement’, has confirmed that his official X (formerly Twitter) account has been compromised in what his team suspects is a politically motivated cyberattack.
In a statement issued Tuesday morning, Chamisa said his social media presence had been infiltrated by “cybercriminals.”
He emphasized that his team is actively working with X support to regain control and prevent further misuse of the account.
“Our cybersecurity team is working diligently with the X support team to fix this problem, regain control, and implement remedial measures,” Chamisa stated.
He assured supporters they would be updated on the progress of the recovery process and any related actions.
While Chamisa did not explicitly name the perpetrators, sources within his team believe the breach may have been orchestrated by state security agents.
The incident occurs amid rising political tensions in Zimbabwe, where opposition figures frequently accuse the government of targeting them through both physical and digital channels.
The X platform has become a crucial tool for Chamisa and his supporters to engage the public, raise awareness, and challenge the official narrative.
