Harare, Zimbabwe – The Ministry of Health and Child Care has issued a statement to reassure the public that the recent flu-like illnesses reported in the country are simply due to the common cold and not a resurgence of COVID-19 or any new viruses.
According to the Ministry, the winter season is typically associated with an increase in common cold cases, and this is what is being seen currently.
“The winter season is associated with increased incidence of common colds and that is what has been seen so far. The cases are neither due to Covid-19 or other new viruses. There is no viral pandemic in Zimbabwe.”
The public is advised to take precautionary measures to stay healthy, including leading a healthy lifestyle, drinking plenty of fluids, keeping warm, and using over-the-counter remedies as needed.
The Ministry’s statement to allays fears and prevents unnecessary panic after rumours had swelled on social media to the effect of a viral pandemic that might be on the prowl.
