Police commissioner Godwin Matanga was forced into subtly reprimanding his subordinate, the Officer Commanding Mashonaland West Province, this after social media uproar in response to a leaked memo brutally rejecting a transfer request by one constable Chitembetembe by his superiors.

Constable Chitembetembe had written to his superiors requesting to be transferred from Siakobvu police station to any police station in Kadoma district so that he can be close to his child living with disabilities placed at Rubatsiro Zimcare Trust in Kadoma.

In response to the officer’s request the police superiors in Mashonaland West led the commanding officer whose stamp is on the memo responded by saying “member to retire on 24 hour notice or stay put at Chalala post. Choose any of the two options,” and social media went berserk accusing the police of inhuman behaviour forcing the police chief Matanga to respond.

In his statement, General Matanga said his office has directed the police human resources department to correct the ‘anomaly.’

“The Commissioner-General of Police has taken note of the viral social media post on Constable Chitembetembe of ZRP Siakobvu urgent family welfare issue.

“The public is accordingly advised that the Commissioner-General of Police has immediately corrected the anomaly and directed the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s human resources department to ensure that the member’s family welfare is prioritised.”
