Polokwane, South Africa- An intensive police blitz in the high density suburbs of Polokwane has netted 634 suspects including 238 illegal immigrants, 8 most wanted criminals leading to the police recovering dangerous weapons, illicit cigarettes, dagga, crystal meth and a host of unlawful items.
According to the Limpopo police communication, the operations were executed by the police together with other law enforcement agencies and external stakeholders and commenced on the 22nd of July.
“During the arrests, eight (08) most wanted suspects were nabbed by the Detectives and Tracking Teams for offenses that included murder, rape, house and business robberies. Twenty-three (23) suspects were nabbed for possession of dangerous weapons and three male suspects for illegal mining activities. The other significant arrests that were effected comprised (11) for malicious damage to property, (08) for robbery with aggravating circumstances, (12) for driving under the influence of alcohol and (26) for possession and dealing in drugs.”
Police also listed some of the items that have been recovered in the operation that seeks to weed out criminal elements.
“During the arrests, police confiscated 34,50 litres of alcoholic beverages, 71 packets of illicit cigarettes, 20 dangerous weapons, 7,776 kg of dagga, 01 furniture, 24 grams of crystal meth drugs, 01 cellphone, 10 ammunition, 0,16 grams of nyaope drugs, 01 motor vehicle and a substantial amount of cash.”
Some of the arrested suspects have already started to appear before their various Magistrate court’s across the province.
Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has appreciated the commitment and dedication continuously being displayed by the men and women in blue for combating and investigating criminal activities in Limpopo province.
