President Emmerson Mnangagwa has fired Apollonia Munzverengwi as Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution.

Munzverengwi was appointed Provincial Affairs Minister for Mashonaland East in 2018.

The Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya, announced changes to the cabinet yesterday, but there were no reason was given for the firing of Minister Apollonia Munzverengwi.

“His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde E.D Mnangagwa has, in terms of Section 108 (1a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, removed Hon. Apollonia Munzverengwi from the Office of Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mashonaland east with immediate effect,” Rushwaya said.

Munzverengwi was replaced by Advocate Itayi Ndudzo who is Hwedza North Constituency Member of Parliament.

“His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa has, in terms of Section 104 Subsection (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, appointed Honourable Itayi Ndudzo as Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mashonaland East Province with immediate effect.”


No reasons were proffered for the removal of Munzverengwi but the ruling party is clearly back to the time of uncertainty rooted in its succession matrix.The rumour mill is swelling Munzverengwi could be a victim of opposing the proposed term extension of incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
