THE “car quarter glass” thief has been jailed for an effective 29 months following his plea of guilt to 12 counts of breaking and stealing from parked cars.
Magistrate Gillian Padzakashamba also ordered Halbane Moyo, 48, to pay back all he stole from his victims or serve his suspended terms.
Padzakashamba also imposed suspended terms from Moyo’s previous sentences similar to his new convictions.
For purposes of sentencing, Moyo’s counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 were taken as one for which he was jailed for 30 months, while others had individual terms which however will run concurrently with his effective 29 months term.
He is expected to pay back to his victims R2,600, R7 300, R600, R1 120, R3 000, R130, $2 300, R38 000 and $40 to victims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10.
For counts 6 and 11 he was jailed for 9 months of which four were suspended on condition he restitutes R6 000 to his victims for those incidences by May 5 this year.
Moyo is the soft spoken thief who rocked Beitbridge breaking into cars by breaching expensive quarter glàsses.
He struck on December 26, 2025 at 903 Medium Density, Beitbridge, stealing various groceries, a lady’s jacket, a skirt and blouse from Jesca Sajanga’s Honda Fit he broke the right quarter glass.
Sajanga’s stolen goods were worth R 2 600 of which nothing was recovered while the damaged quarter glass costs R1600.
On January 4, 2026 Moyo, hit at 784 Medium Density stealing R7 300 from Saymore Bhande’s Toyota Probox, after breaking the right quarter glass. The total value of the damaged quarter glass is ZAR 3000.
For his count 3 Moyo, on January 26, at 975 Medium Density, Beitbridge, stole a First Aid Kit, a bunch of keys and cash amounting to ZAR 100 from Nqobizitha Ngwenya’s Mercedes Benz car after breaking the left quarter glass.
The value of the damaged window is ZAR 3200-000.
On February 1, 2026 at house number 325 Accacia drive, Beitbridge, Moyo stole 16 crates of 30 eggs each from Charity Ndou’s Honda Fit car he breached the front passenger window.
The same night at house number 991 Medium Density, Beitbridge, Moyo stole two blankets and a bag with various clothes from Steven Mhondoro’s Toyota GAIA after forcibly opened the car boot.
Total value of goods stolen is R 3 000-00 and nothing was recovered.
Seemingly in his moment that same Febtuary 1 night at 657 Baobab, Beitbridge, Moyo hit a rear passenger door window of Webster Juwanyira’s Mercedes Benz car but failed to get anything.
The value of the damaged window is R 3200-000.
Some three days later on February 4, Moyo, a lone operator, was at 601 Baobab and stole a wallet containing bank cards and cash amounting to ZAR 130 from Brian Tadyanemhandu’s Mercedes Benz after breaking the right quarter glass.
The total value of the damaged quarter glass is ZAR 4 000-00 and nothing was recovered.
On February 7, and at 613 Baobab, Beitbridge, Moyo struck again stealing a Hisense 43 inch television, two satchels, various groceries and 17 wrist watches from Tawanda Dzvoti’s Mercedes Benz ML car.
Again he broke the right side quarter glass for access.
Dzvoti’s stolen goods were valued at $2 300 and nothing was recovered.
Moyo was back to his hunting ground on February 12 at Munandi Lodge to steal an an Honor Cell phone, groceries and clothes from Lisa Dube’s car, a Toyota Fortuner.
Again, Moyo broke the quarter glass .
Total value stolen is ZAR 41 000 and ZAR 3000 was recovered while the damaged quarter glass is ZAR 3 000 and nothing was recovered.
For his 10th count Moyo, on February 15 at 163 Tower Lane, stole a Pioneer Sub hoofer, two Pioneer small speakers and 3 umbrellas from Tinashe Gweshe’s Toyota Runx after he opened the car’s unlocked doors.
Total value stolen is USD 340 and USD goods worth 300 were recovered.
On his 11th count, Moyo pleaded guilty to breaking Tinashe Gweshe ‘s other car, a Volvo number AFX 1657mhe struck a passenger window but found nothing.
The total value of the damaged window is USD 150-00 and nothing was recovered.
That same night he went to 170 Marula Close and stole a hydraulic jack and a couple of phone charger cables from Lovemore Paradza’s Isuzu KB truck after opening unloked doors.
Paradza’s hydraulic jack was recovered from Viginia Maporera given by Moyo for safe keeping and its value was put at R1000 .
The raid on Paradza appeared Moyo’s last in his active one and half months spell he caused sleepless nights in Beitbdge’s eastern suburbs.
