Chinhoyi – The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has confirmed that a 23-year-old man from Raffingora has been convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 63-year-old woman.
The Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court handed down the sentence following a trial in which the court heard how the crime was committed in May 2025.
According to the State, the victim had been drinking beer with the offender inside her kitchen hut. The offender later pretended to leave for home but returned and confronted the woman at the doorway. He forced her back inside the hut, where he raped her.
After the attack, the man dressed and stepped outside. The victim’s daughter-in-law, alerted by noise, entered the yard and saw the offender standing outside. On checking the kitchen, she found the victim crying. The elderly woman immediately disclosed what had happened.
The matter was reported to the police after the village head advised the victim to lodge a formal complaint. The offender was subsequently arrested and prosecuted.
The NPAZ reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual violence and warned that perpetrators will face stiff penalties under the law.
