Two senior officials of the Bubi-Lupane Irrigation Scheme, Manager Sindiso Mlalazi (50) and Chairman Gerald Khumalo (55), have been brought before the Lupane Magistrates’ Court on charges of theft of trust property.
The two are accused of unlawfully diverting cash payments and 900 litres of diesel fuel, which were supposed to be used for scheme purposes.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) says Mlalazi and Khumalo held key leadership positions within the government-supported agricultural project between August 2024 and March 2025, allegedly misappropriated funds and resources intended for scheme operations and community farming activities.
It is reported that the duo failed to remit the funds and fuel to the scheme’s treasurer, as required by protocol, instead converting the resources for their personal benefit. The total amount of money and resources misappropriated is approximately US$140,000.
The accused’s bail application was dismissed by the court, and they are scheduled to return for further proceedings on May 15, 2025.
