Harare– In a move that shows his fatherly nature, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pardoned and reinstated Simelisizwe Sibanda , who was fired on the 1st of July for berating a Shona speaking teacher in his constituency.

Sibanda’s conduct drew widespread condemnation as it was filled with tribal innuendos at a time the country is trying to heal and move from the tribal mis-steps of the past leading to him being relieved of his position as Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development.

In a statement, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya said Sibanda’s contrition and remorseful attitude played a huge role in him being pardoned by the President and his subsequent reinstatement.

“Following representations, profuse apologies and undertakings to refrain from similar misdemeanors in future, His Excellency the President, Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has decided that Hon. Simelisizwe Sibanda be pardoned.”

“Accordingly, His Excellency the President, Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has in terms of subsection 2 of Section 104 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, appointed Hon. Simelisizwe Sibanda M.P. as the Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development.”
