The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the one of the crew members of the Toyota Quantum intercepted whilst transporting drugs fled from, as investigation in the matter continue.

The consignment of drugs confirmed as dagga by the police was concealed in the trailer of the quantum vehicle.

“Police in Beitbridge in conjunction with ZIMRA officials recovered 20 kilogrammes of dagga, with a street value of ZW$ 20 000 000, which was hidden in a Toyota Quantum vehicle at Malume parking lot, Beitbridge Border Post, indicated the ZRP.

“One of the vehicle’s crew, Michael Mkhokheli fled from the scene leaving his passport in the car. Police have not yet located the driver. Investigations are in progress,” continued the statement.

Social Media has been abuzz with pictures of the drugs which close sources have said included Codeine Benylin , a banned substance in Zimbabwe. 

Even though the ZRP did not mention the codeine laced cough syrup as one of the recovered items, eye witness confirmed it was indeed part of the consignment that was being smuggled into the country.

As the country continues to grapple with a drug problem plaguing especially young people, spotlight has been on the country’s borders especially the main one Beitbridge Border post suspected of being the principal gateway for drugs into the country.
