TONGWE High School has been commended for its achievements and being among the top education institutions in the district.
The commenndation came from a guest of honour Collet Sayi at its colourful Speech and Prize Giving Day on Saturday.
The event was meant to recognise and celebrate outstanding students across various disciplines.
“Tongwe is a great school. It has been producing good results, and you can see that the school is committed to providing quality education in the region,” Sayi said.
Sayi is the education link between the multi-million Bubye Valley Conservancy’s corporate social responsibility acivities.
He is titled Bubye Valley Conservancy Community Education Engagement Manager.
His company supports Tongwe Secondary School together with many others across the district.
The school, which is guided by its motto, Tshisima Tsha Vhuṱali , has an enrolment of more than 622 students, comprising both day scholars and boarding pupils.
Tongwe High School headmistress Sithokozile Sibanda said the prize-giving initiative was aimed at motivating and empowering learners to continue working hard, particularly those preparing to sit for their final Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) examinations in the coming weeks.
“The prize-giving day has been a success. We organise this event to encourage our learners, especially those who will be sitting for their final ZIMSEC examinations in the coming weeks,” Sibanda said.
One of the learners, Kunashe Matandare, a proportional representation Member of Parliament, described the event as an inspiring occasion that encouraged students to work consistently towards achieving excellent results.
“We have been working towards achieving these results since the beginning of the year. This day has been an inspiration, and it is encouraging everyone to continue working hard,” Matandare said.
Among the notable award recipients was Brian Ndlovu, who walked away with the 2026 Best Male Soccer Star of the Year award.
Ndlovu also received the award for Best Form Six Pupil in Physics, demonstrating his abilities both on the football field and in the classroom.
The talented student plays professional football for Vhembe Stars Academy Under-19, which competes in the ZIFA Matabeleland South Division Two league.
His achievement in football reflects his commitment to balancing sporting excellence with academic success.
Ndlovu led Tongwe High School U20 boys football team from district level to national.
Another promising young talent was Mandilite Muleya, a form one learner, won the 2026 Best Female Soccer Star of the Year award.
Her recognition highlights her determination, commitment and talent in sport, making her an inspiration to other young athletes.
The prize giving ceremony celebrated the school’s academic and sporting achievements while encouraging learners to remain focused on their goals and continue striving for excellence in their respective fields.
