In a heartbreaking incident in Ruwa, two young children tragically suffocated inside a parked car while their guardian attended a church service on Sunday.

The victims, Partson Gukwe, aged six, and Tanyaradzwa Hlasela, aged seven, were discovered lifeless in a red Honda Fit parked at Redemption International Church in the Damofalls Industrial Area.

The children had been driven to the church by their 57-year-old guardian, Paul Hlasela Makechemu. After initially joining other children for Sunday School activities, the boys returned to the vehicle, where they were later found unresponsive.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the tragic incident to H-Metro, stating, “The circumstances surrounding how the children managed to unlock the vehicle but were unable to escape remain a mystery.”

Authorities are investigating the incident as the community processes the loss of these young lives.

The tragedy has raised concerns about child safety and supervision, particularly during church services and similar gatherings. The police are appealing to the public for any information that may shed light on this unfortunate situation.
