The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has painted a grim picture of the most ravaging currently going on in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Secretary General Guterres’s warning comes amid the escalating conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, featuring Israel against Palestine and Lebanon and the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, two conflicts that have killed more civilians than the armed men and women.

Describing the situation in the Middle East , the UN SG said, “the situation in Gaza is a non-stop nightmare that threatens to take the entire region with it, Lebanon is on the brink.”

“The people of Lebanon, the people of Israel and the people of the world cannot afford Lebanon to become another Gaza,” he adds.

He also warned of the situation happening in the Eastern side of Europe highlighting the staggering human cost.

“Since Russia’s full-blown invasion of Ukraine, more than 11,000 civilians have been killed. The longer this tragic war continues, the greater the risk of escalation & spill over. We must stop the suffering & break the cycle of violence – for the sake of the people of Ukraine, the people of Russia, and the world,” he said.

The situation in the Middle East is teetering to a full blown chaos unless the international community intervenes to bring warring sides to a compromise. Gaza has been reduced to a sea of rubbles and the bombarding of Lebanon threatens to create another humanitarian crisis. The same can be said in the Russo-Ukraine war were over 11000 civilians have lost their lives and hundreds of billions will be needed for any post war reconstruction efforts as most towns and cities have been shelled to the ground.
