SOUTH Africa’s entertainment industry is mourning the death of veteran actor Seputla Sebogodi, who passed away at the age of 63 following complications related to diabetes.

His family confirmed that the celebrated actor died on the evening of July 15, 2026, describing his passing as a profound loss. They also appealed for privacy as they grieve.

“The immediate family of Seputla Sebogodi confirms, with profound sadness, his passing on the evening of 15 July 2026 following complications related to diabetes,” the family said in a statement.

“The family kindly requests privacy as they mourn this immense loss and navigate this difficult time together.”

Sebogodi was widely regarded as one of South Africa’s most accomplished actors, with a distinguished career spanning several decades in both television and theatre.

He became a familiar face to audiences through his roles in popular productions including Generations, Suburban Bliss, Bophelo ke Semphego, Redemption and, most recently, Scandal!, where he continued to showcase his acting talent.

Away from the screen, Sebogodi also built an impressive reputation on stage. His theatre credits included acclaimed productions such as Big Dada, Waiting for Godot, The Rivonia Trial, Once a Pirate and Mooi Street Moves, among many others.

Paying tribute to his contribution to the arts, the family said Sebogodi had left an indelible mark on South African theatre and television.

“Seputla Sebogodi leaves behind an extraordinary legacy in South African theatre and television,” the statement read.
