VHEMBE delivered a commanding performance at the Tshitaudze Handball Tournament, clinching both the boys’ and girls’ titles in an impressive display of skill and teamwork at Beitbridge Government Primary School last Tuesday.

Teams were divided into two groups for both boys and girls, (Group A) featured St Mary’s, St Joseph, Zezani, and Tongwe, while (Group B) comprised Vhembe, Malala, and Siyoka.

In the boys’ category, Vhembe emerged as champions after a commanding 29–19 victory over St Mary’s in a fiercely contested final.

The match showcased Vhembe’s attacking strength and defensive discipline, which ultimately proved decisive.

Vhembe team coach, Mr. Mapako, praised his players for their performance and unity.

“The boys showed great determination and teamwork throughout the tournament. I am proud of the effort they put in to achieve this result,” he said.

Despite the loss, St Mary’s team manager, Coach Manners, remained optimistic about his side’s prospects.

“Congratulations to Vhembe for their hard work and well-deserved victory. As for our boys, we will continue to build and believe in ourselves for the upcoming tournaments,” he said.

In the girls’ category, Vhembe also claimed top honors after a dramatic encounter against Tongwe, with the match ending in a draw in regular time, forcing a penalty shoot-out ,Vhembe held their nerve to secure a 19–14 win and seal the championship.

Beitbridge Handball Association head representative, Believemore Nyoni, commended all participating teams for their commitment and sportsmanship.

“We are encouraged by the level of participation and the effort displayed by all teams. This tournament reflects the growing strength of handball in the district,” he said.

The tournament highlighted emerging talent and reinforced the importance of grassroots sports development within Beitbridge and surrounding communities.
