A 55 year old self-proclaimed prophet from the Chief Nyajina area of Uzumba has appeared in the Murewa Magistrates’ Court on charges of rape.
The Prophet has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on February 17, 2025.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) says the Prophet told a female congregant that she had fertility issues and needed to visit his home for prayers.
The complainant stayed at Prophet’s residence for three days. On the third night, she was instructed to wake up at midnight for a special prayer session.
The self Proclaimed Prophet allegedly told her that she had an unknown object in her womb that could only be removed through sexual intercourse with him.
He then threatened her with death if she refused and proceeded to rape her.
The case came to light on February 1, 2025, after the Prophet told the complainant’s husband that she needed to return to his home to complete the prayers.
The complainant then revealed the alleged rape to her husband. A police report was filed, resulting in the accused’s arrest.
