Two British nationals, Tihaise Darlin Elisha, 18 and Taylor Tamara Simone, 20 both from Birmingham, UK, have been remanded in custody after attempting to smuggle 66.9 kilograms of dagga worth $669,000 into Zimbabwe, the latest foiled attempt to smuggle drugs through this international airport.
The duo was arrested at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on May 1, 2025, after detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics unit received a tip-off about their suspicious behaviour.
The suspects were identified as they collected their four suitcases from the carousel and were subsequently taken to the searching bay, where the illicit substance was discovered. The dagga was concealed in 124 packets within the suitcases.
Elisha and Simone were arraigned before the Mbare Magistrates’ Court and charged with unlawful possession of drugs.
They were remanded in custody until May 6, 2025.
