Renowned journalist Blessed Mhlanga has found himself in a precarious situation after he was visited by three armed individuals at his offices on Monday morning.
The visitors, allegedly armed with pistols, were looking for Mhlanga, who recently conducted an exclusive interview with Zanu PF central committee member and war veteran Blessed Geza.
Geza, in the interview, gave President Emmerson Mnangagwa an ultimatum to voluntarily step down or face forceful removal from office.
The visit from the armed individuals has left Mhlanga shaken, and he has decided to visit the ZRP Law and Order offices with his lawyers on Tuesday to report the incident.
“It’s not a laughing matter at all. Three persons armed with pistols came to my office this morning looking for me. They did not say why they needed me. Then minutes later, I got a call inviting me to Law and Order. I will be presenting myself to the police with my lawyers tomorrow,” Mhlanga stated on his official X (formerly Twitter).
This is not the first time Mhlanga has been summoned by the ZRP. Just two weeks ago, he was called to the Harare Central Police Station, where he was met with a surprise. The authorities wanted to discuss the status of a six-year-old case involving former Deputy Finance Minister Terrence Mukupe.
Mhlanga was allegedly assaulted by Mukupe during a live political debate in 2018, with Mukupe confiscating Mhlanga’s wife’s phone.
The case had been closed, with both criminal and civil actions being resolved amicably by mutual agreement. Mhike, Mhlanga’s external legal counsel from Misa Zimbabwe, expressed his astonishment that the police wanted to discuss the closed case.
The visit from the armed individuals has added to the tension, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold.
