Beitbridge -Two Zezani High school young athletes are set to embark on a journey of a lifetime as they are set to represent Zimbabwe at the African U18/U20 Combined Athletics Championships representing in Nigeria.
The two, Derrick Mathuthu and Tinotenda Kayereka will represent the country in the 400 meters race and long jump respectively. The duo have Ben brilliant this season earning their place in team Zimbabwe following their successful victories from the district to the national competitions.
The Zezani High School headmaster, Kgotso Sebata has rallied behind his boys, wishing them to continue displaying the fighting spirit which hs taken them this far.
“The boys are determined, they put a lot in their training. Some self-motivated boys who train even in the absence of coaches. I wish them the best in their competitions. Their traveling to Nigeria will be a source of inspiration to the Juniors at school. They are very brave, their bravery resonates, so we’ll to what Nelson Mandela said….he said:
“The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear”, Sebata stated.
Recently, Derrick Mathuthu represented Zimbabwe at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China and now he is set to represent the country in Nigeria for the African Junior Championship.
