Beitbridge, a bustling urban settlement in Matabeleland South Province, is poised to become Zimbabwe’s next big economic hub.

The Municipality of Beitbridge has announced a plethora of investment opportunities, promising a bright future for entrepreneurs and businesses alike last week during the 2026 Budget Review presented to Council at the Municipality of Beitbridge Chambers.

“Municipality of Beitbridge is running a very progressive and fast growing urban settlement in terms of both population and urban development. Beitbridge is the most populous urban settlement in Matabeleland South Province. As per 2022 Census report, the town was home to 58 574 inhabitants a population that was more than double that of the provincial capital, Gwanda. Beitbridge urban population has been doubling every ten years for the past two decades,” said Cllr John Manatsa, Chairperson of the Finance and Staffing Committee.

Beitbridge’s strategic location along the Great Limpopo River makes it a prime destination for tourism and commercial development.

Investors are being encouraged to develop accommodation facilities, nature parks, waterfronts, and water-based activities such as boating, canoeing, and wildlife viewing.

The town’s natural landscape and panoramic scenery offer a unique attraction for visitors, creating opportunities for sustainable tourism growth.

The municipality is also promoting manufacturing initiatives, particularly in agro-processing, tannery, beef and fish processing, and packaging of mopane worms.

Agriculture presents further potential, with projects in piggery, poultry, and pen fattening poised to contribute to local food security and economic growth.

Additionally, quarry resources are available for industrial development, while the municipality is investing in solid waste management programs that promote community empowerment through recycling, biogas production, and organic fertilizers.

Solar energy initiatives are being explored to provide reliable electricity, further supporting industrial and residential growth.

Special economic zones are being developed to attract investment in automotive, agro-processing, and aquaculture industries, while residential, commercial, and industrial plots are readily available to investors and developers.

The Municipality of Beitbridge has also implemented strong governance and financial reporting measures to create a favorable business environment.

The 2026 budget focuses on enhancing minimum service delivery, including public safety, housing, water, and sanitation.
