Zezani high school ‘s Beauty Munyai and Nicole Maheya from Oarkleigh house secured silver medals in the doubles final at the Tarryn – Leigh De Souza Memorial Tennis tournament in Bulawayo.
The tournament featured participants from across Zimbabwe regional players from Botswana.
Following their impressive 6-2 and 6-0 victory in the semi-final, the 15 year old duo suffered a 6-1 and 6-2 defeat in the final against Bulawayo duo of Jiane Muteri and Mavondo Moyo.
,Phathutshedzo Munyai, who is the father of the young sensation Beauty Munyai highlighted that he is proud of the girls ‘ dedication and effort throughout the tournament despite falling short of claiming gold.
Additionally he highlighted that his young girl has been exceptional in her career, as she once won the gold medal in the national competition the previous year when she was under 13.
“Am really proud of this girl having deviated from common sport codes like soccer, netball and athletics and doing well in the so called elite sport code. She once got gold at another National competition whilst still under 13.We will continue supporting her as her family for her to achieve her desired goal,” Munyai stated.
Beauty Munyai became the first player from Zezani high school to compete in a tennis tournament after the headmaster Kgotso Sebata introduced the sport at the school due to her performance on the court.
